Almost forgot!

I didn’t update this thing with some big news that has happened recently:

A: I had a slight hair malfunction. And when I say “slight hair malfunction” I mean my spontaneous tendencies finally backfired and I completely fucked up my hair.

I was at the East Brunswick Square Mall by myself during a weekend in Jersey. I stopped by the salon by JCPenney on a whim (which was a bad idea to begin with, since everyone knows that salon is bad news) and asked “What’s the loosest, biggest curl you can achieve with a perm?” You can see where this story is going. The woman I talked to was the manager and seemed very knowledgeable about perms and what sort of results I was looking for. So I booked a perm immediately, ran home to tell my mother (my cell was dead and I ended up having to call her from the house phone ‘cause she wasn’t there, anyway) and ran back to begin. The woman that ended up actually doing my hair was not the woman I originally spoke with- this one was Asian and I think there was a misunderstanding or mistranslation of my request- and she ended up giving me a spiral perm and cutting off only some of the length. I had asked her to cut it much shorter, but she kept saying “I like it long,” which is never a good sign when your stylist doesn’t listen to you. Long story short, I’m glad she DIDN’T cut it as much as I wanted because I ended up having to cut off all of the length I had worked so hard to grow out:

Anyway. I guess I’m a okay with it because I’d been craving a big change anyway and I washed a lot of the curl out as soon as I got home from the salon. It’s just ballz (see previous post on correct usage of this term) that this whole deal was meant to make my life EASIER on the road trip because I wouldn’t have to spend so much time on my hair. Which is exactly the opposite of the result. Now I’ll have to spend a bunch of time either fixing my curls or straightening it. And I can’t really throw it up anymore. And I don’t know how I’ll style it to be cute in Vegas.

Speaking of Vegas… Vegas dress/outfit:

FUN FACT: This was post-perm and pre-hair cut.

B: Remember that “ghetto” apartment I saw on the day I went to see 9 to 5? Well, after going to see it a second time, we’ve reached a deal. I’ll be moving in on August 1st! Here’s my original pros/cons list with some updates in italics:

Pros:
Spacious studio (My mind had remembered it bigger, but it’s still a good size.)
Can paint all walls (He’s going to paint it for me! Sweeeeet!)
Nice kitchen on two walls
SWEET 50+ year old retro fridge
Dishwasher
Friendly, nice landlord (He is seriously the NICEST guy and apparently, has a 22-year-old son that loves kids and animals. God, I hope he’s cute.)
Good location on Matchaponix Rd. (Let me revise- GREAT location.)
Privately owned, so I wouldn’t need a credit check
Good price ($900 including all utilities) (We actually got him down to $850!)
Landlord more than willing to put in shelves and basically anything I ask him to install
Two nice, big windows and one smaller window
Patio (though this could also be a con because it’s concrete and ugly) (This is definitely a pro because I found a great outdoor carpet and I’ll find some cute outdoor furniture- maybe a hammock- and some outdoor lighting to make it adorable!)
Small yard (also could be a con because there’s really no fence and there’s debris and we saw a garden snake slithering his way around…EEK!) (I’m still undecided about the pro-ness of this)
Lucy would be allowed
Long wall with closet bar all the way across (I have SO MANY HANGERS to buy.)

Cons:
Purple carpet (Kind of a dark plum color, which, I must admit, has kinda grown on me the more I think about it) (In reality, it’s a tad lighter and brighter than I remembered, but still decent.)
Bathroom separate (I’d have to go out a door and through a little entryway that the upstairs girl uses to the washer/dryer area)
NO SINK in bathroom (This baffles me. The guy said he’d put one in for me, but still) (He’s going to put in a cute pedestal sink once he gets back from a weekend away this week. :D)
Weird linoleum that covers about half of the apartment (Just the kitchen area would be fine, but it’s a little too much) (After a second look, I’ve decided the design isn’t that bad and, besides, I got a cheap chenille carpet from Urban Outfitters for where I’m putting my bedroom area.)
Outside looks like crap (This is okay. It’ll make it that much more of a pleasant surprise when visitors actually go INSIDE and see how cute I’ve designed it. :D)

All in all, I’m really happy about this decision and I can’t wait to move back to Jersey! I’m moving on August 1st, so we’ll have the whole of August to clean up this apartment in order to get the security back. It’s all working out and I’m so excited.

I’ll be sure to do an interior design brainstorming post. :D
